The Head of Service of Anambra State, Barr. Theodora Okwy Igwegbe, has been recognized for her exceptional contributions to public service with the prestigious Distinguished Public Service Meritorious Award. The accolade was presented during the 6th Annual Anambra Media Excellence Awards (AMEA), organized by the Association of Digital Media Core Advocates (ADMCA) under the leadership of Dr. Chuma Odili.  


There event, held on Friday, November 22, 2024, in Awka, served as a platform to celebrate excellence in media and public service across the state.  


Barr. Igwegbe, represented at the ceremony by Engr. Dr. Martin Agbili, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development, and Engr. Mike Obiekwe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organizers for deeming her worthy of the honour.  


In her remarks, Barr. Igwegbe underscored the importance of curbing fake news, emphasizing its potential to undermine government efforts and public trust. She encouraged civil servants and members of the public to verify the authenticity of information before dissemination, cautioning against the publication of unverified content.  


She also appealed for greater public support for journalists, noting that their roles are crucial to fostering informed societies and ensuring the dissemination of accurate and impactful information.  


The award further cements Barr. Igwegbe’s reputation as a dedicated and exemplary public servant committed to the advancement of governance and public service in Anambra State.
