Anambra State government has assured commitment towards prudent management of public resources by promoting fiscal accountability and value for money.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr Achor J. stated this at Awka when the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs)/Media Accountability and Anticorruption Initiative (CMAAI), paid courtesy call to his office.
According to him, governor Chukwuma Soludo's led adminstration frowned at corruption and had setup various committees to consider the State anti-corruption laws with a view to ensuring their passage and possible assent.
He added that the State government has not only put adequate measures in place to ensure that public funds were properly accounted for but assuring that the citizenry enjoy the dividends of democracy through provisions of basic amenities.
Speaking during the visit, the Team Lead, CMAAI, Ugochi Freeman, said the group was working to promote accountability and transparency particularly in fiscal ransparency to ensure value for money.
"Our mission is to ensure that public resources are managed efficiently, effectively, and transparently, benefiting all citizens. By partnering with government institutions, like the Ministry of Finance, we aim to strengthen Fiscal frameworks, enhance public trust, and foster economic growth," she added.
She said the visit was targeted at advocating for the review and passage of the Fiscal Responsibility law, including establishment of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission immediately the law is passed so as to ensure that penalties are provided for the offences to make the law enforceable.
Continuing, she said "We want you to support the ANSAC committee in your ministry by ensuring release of funds for their oversight as they serve as internal compliance mechanism across MDAs to ensure full compliance of service charters to curb corrupt practices.
" By supporting this law, you'll demonstrate your commitment to prudent financial management, transparency and good governance. It will enhance your ministry's credibility, attract investors and development partners, foster economic growth and build public trust."
