The President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, Anambra State chapter, Chief Chukwuemekalum Udodeme has bemoaned the effect of moral decadence in Southeast, which according to him had resulted into insecurity ravaging the zone.
Udodeme, who stated this at end of year meeting and awards event organised by the chapter in Awka, Anambra State capital, averred that insecurity was fast turning the rich and able to do individuals in the zone to turn into hiding in order to escape abduction, killings and societal malaise.
According to him, the stakeholders were needed to salvage the situation by reviving the aged long forgotten Ịgba boyi (Igbo apprenticeship modal) which creates opportunities for hardworking, wealth creation and management.
He also urged people to stop aiding and concealing identities of criminals as it could easily consume them in future if they fail to expose the culprits.
Delivering a paper on Igbo Apprenticeship System, the keynote speaker and Anambra State House of Assembly member representing Aniocha II, Rt. Hon. Ejike Okechukwu explained that in the past wealth has history in ìgbo land, and the legislative chamber has moved towards remodeling it.
According to Okechukwu, a current bill in the house of Assembly which has passed first and second reading, provides for peaceful ways of resolving issues surrounding ịgba boyi, including proposing a commission and resources to argument whoever that was not well settled.
Also speaking, an oil magnate, Chief Orpet Nwakpadolu, noted that Ịgba boyi help apprentors to acquire skills and morality, including ethics, family and moral values through the Igba Boi system.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion and former National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), Chief Alex Onukwue argued that Ohanaeze being the mouthpiece of ndigbo has a role to play in reactivating the Igba boi system and nipping the get-rich-quick syndrome to the bud.
