Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Labour Party (LP) remains unfazed with the threatened;-fortunes of the party, aftermath of the exit of its Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi.
The view resonated after LP concluded its Senatorial and House of Representatives, weekend. Among those who emerged as the flag bearers after a consensus arrangement were Venerable Tochukwu Sagacious Ikezue (Anambra Central Senatorial District); Barrister Kachi Aghasili (Awka North/Awka South Federal Constituency); Hon. Anthony Ikenna Okafor (Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency); and Mrs. Oby Okoye (Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia Federal Constituency).
Declaring the results in Awka, the Returning Officer, Iduma Christian Mayor congratulated the victorious candidates for securing the party's tickets, describing the exercise as peaceful and orderly.
Speaker after speaker, expressed the hope that LP would spring another surprise as it did in the 2023 elections, urging party faithful to remain more committed to deepen democracy in the country.
In his acceptance speech, the LP's senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Venerable Ikezue thanked God for his guidance and party faithful for their support describing candidature as part of a rescue mission aimed at transforming the district.
Ikezue further expressed confidence in the electoral process, maintaining that the people's votes calling on the party to commit to protection of the mandate of voters.
Also speaking, the Barrister Aghasili, who won the ticket as the candidate for Awka North/Awka South Federal Constituency, thanked God and supporters for the confidence reposed in her, highlighting her focus on the welfare and development of communities across the Constituency.
Aghasili called on party members and supporters to embark on grassroots mobilisation by going from door to door to inform the electorate that the Labour Party remains active and the vehicle to secure power through democratic beans for delivery of democracy dividends to the masses.
To Mrs Ifeoma Obii-Okoye who won Njikoka/Dunukofia/Anaocha Federal Constituency ticket, her emergence was a divine intervention to restore hope and dignity of man.
While expressing great hoke on future elections, she tasked party members to remain united and work together to achieve a common purpose.
Also speaking the winner of LP's primary for Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Hon. Anthony Ikenna Okafor said that he would justify the confidence reposed in him by consulting and working effectively with stakeholders to give a facelift to Nnewi as the industrial powerhouse and advance the mission of the Labour Party within his constituency.
In his remarks, the Chairman of LP in the State, Hon. Peter Okoye expressed gratitude that the party has successfully conducted its primaries assuring on consolidation and reconciliation process with key stakeholders across the party structure.
Okoye who thanked the stakeholders including INEC, security personnel, civil society, and media practitioners expressed hope that would cause another upset come the 2027 elections, stressing that LP was fully ready for the contest in order not to lose any of its seats, having fielded quality candidates.
He pointed out that LP remains a workers' party with roots in the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), adding that the party would continue to maintain discipline and uphold its core values.
