Anambra to digitalise legislative operations, as Soludo appeals for commitment to democracy

The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr Somtochukwu Udeze, Friday, said the legislative arm was working towards digitalising its operations to make it more accessible to the populace.


Udeze, who stated this at 3rd Anniversary of the 8th Assembly cum democracy day celebration, attended


by governor Chukwuma Soludo and other State functionalies.


He argued that digitalisation would help to expand their scope of operations and reach while modernising the lawmaking processes for easy accessibility.


"As an Assembly, we remain committed to strengthening our institution. We are working towards improving staff welfare, expanding legislative infrastructure, including the proposed administrative block, and digitalizing the entire legislative operations and modernizing the lawmaking process to make it much functional," he stated. 


He commended the State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo for enabling the legislative chamber to provide the State with three years of purposeful legislative service such as lawmaking laws, providing oversight, and representing their interests. 


Earlier speaking, Governor Chukwuma Soludo urged the citizenry to be more committed to strengthening democracy, arguing that it remained the best option over dictatorship.


"June 12 is a day to celebrate the advent of democracy. It is a landmark to our history. We will never take it for granted. We have to pay homage to those who paid the supreme sacrifice for the struggle for democracy in the country. Freedom and democracy can never be equated to dictatorship," he added. 


Speaking in an interview, the Majority Leader, Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikenna Ofodoeme, adjudged democracy as the best system of governance, because according to him, it provides the citizens opportunities to express themselves.


Ofodoeme, who represents Ekwusigo State Constituency, added that with democracy the lawmakers were allowed to checkmate the activities of the executive, as well as supports the judiciary in making laws that would be beneficial to all the citizens.
