Ojukwu University students happy with management, call for security beef up

The students of  Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, (COOU), Igbariam campus, have applauded  the University management's great efforts in creating educational friendly environment for the students to achieve academic excellence.


According to the students, condition of education in the area is very conducive. 

Miss Chiamaka Onyezue, 300 level student of accountancy department of COOU said that the current University management has brought in destructive development across all sectors of the University.


Onyezue said that the school have not gone on strike over years which have enabled the students graduate on record time and leave with their statement of results for national youth service Corp without delay.


She further appealed to the Vice Chancellor of the school, Prof. Kate Omenugha, to also extend her progressive development ideas to solve frequent insecurity activities in off campus hotels where it's students resides 


Mr Gerald Okafor, a 200 level student of accountancy department collaborated Onyezue's assertion on the transformative projects ongoing in the school environment but request the university management to look toward giving affordable transport systems to the students.


Okafor said that lack of hostel accommodation pushed most students not to live within the University communities making them spend huge amount of money to attend lectures only, daily living expenses excluded.


" Most of the students spends fortune coming to attend their lectures most time they do not come as a result of pauscity of fund.


" I pray that the school can arrange with shuttle drivers within the council area to be plying within the school at a rebate basis." he said.


Okafor expressed pride of been an undergraduate of the school because the management have provided a morden library for research, well equipped laboratory science hall for quality learning and hoped in future the school will produce first class graduates  in all faculties.


He said that the school have inculcated the idea of treating environment with with care with the introduction of dump baskets in all areas of the school from the entry gates to classes area others"I am happy to see these improvements and proud to be a student of COOU".


Mr Frankly Olisemeka, a 100 level student of political science of the school said that he is happy to be a student of the school because of its zero tolerance to cultism and other social ill behaviours common in Universities.


Olisemeka urged the University management to fasten to build more accommodation and lecture classes in the campus so as to have all departments functional in a viable environment and all students living together for greater healthy socialisation so to have good image of the school.

He said that he will like to have situation where students will not interact with outside world but be together to be well groomed and enjoy what University environment really means.


Olisemeka said that students arr scattered within communities of the host University and have been  exposed  to lots dangers such as kidnapping, accidents and other unhealthy experiences which young adults are not to be associated with.


Responding to the worrisome situations narrated by the students the Vice Chancellor of the University, Omenugha, told reporter that the management is not sleeping over some issues still facing the school.


 She said that the have engaged wealthy citizens within their reach to come build hostels in the main campus to accommodate their students and the are responding.


" we have individuals who have built hostels with 1000 capacity, 800 capacity and 700 and still counting.


" we have attracted lots of developmental projects since my tenure of three years of the 25 years of the school creation and we are not relenting.


 She said that her mission is to give COOU viability,  visibility and value and also  to give voice and face to all undergraduate and create integrity in them.


" I am very passionate about the conducive learning environment for the students as one time 8 years commissioner of education in Anambra i will not take for granted safe and healthy learning space.


" we have created what we called stakeholders forum committe where the parents of the students comes on a meeting time to rob minds with us for the good of the student in a good character moulding.


" The forum also have a unit where the community leaders and security operatives in the host town relates with the University community for rich interaction for safety of our students living in their areas pending when we gets enough hostels to accommodate our student.


"We are planning big to face the hostel and class rooms challenges which before my leaving office huge difference will be made for posterity.," she assured.

The VC said that they have warned their students living off campus to avoid late night's movement but be in their hostel latest 6pm  but most times the float the orders.though we are in arrangement with owners of hostels where the students lives to have security tags and any not complying will be black listed.




Omenugha assured that her administration was building up the landscape of the school with a leisure park, University kitchen, economic tree to create a conducive and ecologically friendly environment for the students delights and the Vicitors.



She promised the students that the worry about the security around the University host community  would soon be an old story and and urged people of good will to support the institution with construction of hostel accommodation to encourage on-campus residence among students.



The VC said that Gov.Charles Soludo of Anambra have done greatly in giving a facelift  of the University campuses at Uli and Igbariam,  investing in the institution especially the infrastructure turnaround at the Uli through construction of roads within the Uil campus andu electrifying the schooyl.


She also commends the friends of the University who have always rallied round her once she calls on them.
