Anambra House of Assembly Majority Leader slumps, dies in hotel room

The member representing Awka South 2 constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Nnamdi Okafor, Tuesday, reportedly slumped and died in his hotel room at Johannesburg, South Africa.


Okafor, a member of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) was also a Majority Leader of the House and Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Health.


The pharmacist turned politician became a legislator in 2014 and currently serving out his second tenure until he met his death at South Africa alongside where he had been alongside other legislators for a possible legislative retreat and recess.


As details of his demise was been awaited from both State House of Assembly and All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), some government officials and party members are trending the news on their social media handles. 


Okafor had few months ago contested for Awka North and  Awka South Federal Constituency primary election held by APGA but was defeated by Hon. Obi Nwankwo, a former three time commissioner in the State.


Similarly, an online viral results sheets indicated that he later participated on the Federal House of Representatives primary poll held by Labour Party and lost out to a Lecturer, Prof. Lillian Orogbu.


The news of Hon. Okafor's death made it second person to have died as a lawmaker in the 8 Assembly since the member representing Aguata 1 constituency where Governor Chukwuma Soludo hails from, Hon. Okechukwu Okoye died in the kidnappers den three months ago.
