In what could be described as a historic performance, the Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate for the 2023 poll, Mr Peter Obi has cleared all the 20 Local Government Areas so far declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Anambra State.
The electoral officers for various LGAs disclosed this at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presidential collation Centre currently ongoing at the INEC headquarters in Awka, the State capital under the supervision of State Collation Officer and Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Professor Nnenna Oti.
Anambra State has 21 LGAs, but results so far collated include Ayamelum, Dunukofia, Njikoka, Ekwusigo, Anaocha, Awka South, Awka North, Anambra West, Aguata, Nnewi South, Oyi, Anambra East and Onitsha South. Others were Idemili North, Idemili South, Orumba North, Orumba South, Ihiala, Aguata and Nnewi North.
For Aguata LGA, which is where governor Chukwuma Soludo hails from, Obi gathered 37,478 votes to defeat the presidential candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Peter Umeadi that scored only 712 votes. The candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alh. Atiku Abubakar, came third with 522 votes, while Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu of All Progressive Congress secured 301.
