The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Tuesday, appealed for governor Chukwuma Soludo's intervention in addressing erosion menace and isufficient housing issues facing officers of the scheme in Anambra State.

The State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma made the appeal on the occasion of the 2023 Batch A (Stream II) orientation course held at Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC permanent orientation camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State.

According to Iruma, officers of the scheme are challenged by lack of accommodation and a befitting State Secretariat complex that would enable them work efficiently and effectively.

She listed some of the Camp Officials in need of accommodation as the Army, Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Directorate of Security Services (DSS), Man O’ War and Red Cross, and others.

"At this point, I wish to appreciate the State Government for their support to the Scheme in the State. May I also remind your Excellency that Erosion menace at this Orientation Camp, Lack of adequate accommodation for Camp Officials (Army, Police, NSCDC, DSS, Man O’ War and Red Cross etc) as well as absence of befitting State Secretariat complex for the operations of the Scheme in the State are some of the challenges that need urgent intervention.

" May I also remind all employers that the posting of these Corps Members were mainly based on request so rejection should not be expected. We are grateful to our two host communities, Umuawulu and Mbaukwu for their hospitality. To my esteemed and hard working Camp Officials, I thank you for your contributions, and sacrifices towards the success of this Course. To my dear Corps Members, I wish you all a fruitful and hitch free service year," she added.

But responding, governor Chukwuma Soludo, commended the federal government for investing heavily on the scheme, and assured that the State government has adequate plans and welfare for the corps and the scheme generally.

"The Anambra State Government has adequate plans and welfare for you. Anambra in their usual hospitable nature are all aware and are waiting to integrate you into their fold. We have a tradition of rewarding hard work at the end of the service in form of different awards and the process for the selection starts right from the camp," Soludo noted.
