NANS gives FG, ASUU one week ultimatum to reopen universities

National Association of Nigeria Students NANS has given Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU one week to reopen universities, or face shutting  down of the country.


NANS gave the warning in Awka Anambra state  on Tuesday during a peaceful protest against the closure of the universities education in the country .


Speaking to Daily Trust, the chairman of  Anambra state  NANS Comrade Peter Onyemaefe said ASUU and Federal Government are destroying the future of the youths and the country,noting that they must stop that henceforth.


According to him, the federal government and ASUU are toying with the future of the country by keeping its productive youths  idle for months.


He said that  a programme that was supposed to last for four years now last for six to  seven years without even hope after graduation.

He said that the youths will soon come out to call for end of the government if this issues is not address.

According to him, the just ended endsars will  commence  immediately after the one week expiration  .

"It is about ASUU strike ,  Students are registering their grievances on continuous strike in the universities. Every six months or less there must be strike in the universities. They are trading with our future , a programme that is supposed to last for  four years will last  six to seven years. We pay extra house rent, we pay extra school fee, extra feeding allowance. Because of the incessant strike , many student are now getting involve in armed robbery , prostitutions , yahoo, yahoo and many others criminal activities.

We are giving  government and ASUU one week to resolve  their problems or face shutting down the country. We will continue to create crisis until they do the needful. They are playing with us. We are saying no to  manipulation. We are saying that  we want to go back to school" he said.


The protest  which took place along the major Enugu - Awka Expressyway and  lasted for over five hours created a heavy gridlock.


 The traffic which stretched for  over two kilometres covered  Agu Awka  to unixik temporary .


One of the passenger in a buse going to Onitsha said that , it was treble for over five no movement.
