Prominent women and community leaders from Abagana, Njikoka LGA of Anambra State have unanimously condemned the reports of molestation perpetrated against a woman by another woman in the community.
There are report of abuse meted out to a 75 years old woman, Mrs Theresa Nwaokaka of Obe-Orofia by her over 50 years old daughter, Mrs Ukamaka Udugbo.
Speaking in an interview, the President General (women wing) of Abagana Community, Mrs Nkiru Okpata, described the act as evil.
Okpata told the members of Non-Governmental Organisation, 50-50 Action Group of WomenAid Collective (WACOL) and 100 Women Lobby Group, Anambra branch, that a preliminary investigation conducted in the community confirmed the act to be true.
“I am very shocked because Udugbo is a one if the leaders in the community both in the church and her village. She attends the general meeting where we preach against açt of violence against women.
“We are going to strip her off all positions she handles because she did not act as a good leader,who attends regular meeting of the main women meeting in the community where duch acts are frown at,” she said.
Also speaking, Mrs Eunice Anagor, the chairlady of the kindred where Udugbo hails from, assured that the women will look into the matter to unravel the root of the problem.
Anagor disclosed that the police in the community acted promptly and that a paper for a visit to a hospital has being given by the police.
Contributing, Mrs Ebele Nweke, the Secretary of the women village meeting said that Nwaokaka has be living in her daughter’s home for awhile and showed concern about her actions.
Nweke said that the Women has resolved to put extra care on their elderly to avoid a repeat of the ugly happenstance.
Mrs Oge Okeke the Vice president said that the incident is the first of its type in their village and assured that the meeting will devise a means to checkmate such occurrence.
Okeke said that financial assistance would be needed for a closer care and appealed to government to intervene timely.
Mrs Augustine Akanisi, the treasure of the women meeting comnended the community vililante team and the police officers for their proactive measures.
Mr Ben Okongwu the community President General said that the issues has been reported to the Divisional police station and justice would be served.
“We do not want to take laws into our hands so the incident was reported to the police as the video clip was confirmed.
Mr Emeka Nwaokaka the victim son described the incident as a surprise because their mother has been with the sister for a long time.
Nwaokaka said that his sister is full of remose since the incident was blown to public attention and described the act as confusing.
Earlier the team spoke with the Divisional Police Officer of Abagana Police station SP Ifeanyi Umeh who said that they were notified and immediate action initiated which led to the arrest of the accused.
Umeh said that after right documentation that the case will be transferred to the police command in Awka.
Mrs Tina Agu,woman ASP in charge of police juvenile welfare Centre said that case will transferred to Awka and decline further information.
Mrs Ify Unachukwu the leader of the delegation urged the police to see that incident is given due attention to avoid a repeat.
Unachukwu described the act as very bad for a daughter to molest her mother and discouraged young minds from emulating such bad conduct.
Mrs Ngozi Mbachi the leader of the 50-50Action women group described the action as unholy act which must not allow to thrive.
Mbachi said that Anambra Ministry of women Affairs,under Commissioner Ify Obinabo have been notified and sure of her quality action.
"The Commissioner has being in forefront to fight against violence against and am sure this case won't differently."
Mrs Ugochi Freeman urged the government to intensify action towards controlling such act by dishing punishment to people who act in such manner.
