Obosi community in Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State has elected a legal luminary, Bar. Chimezie Obi, as her new President General (PG), seven months after unknown gunmen assassinated their PG, late Mr Ikechukwu Okolo.
Okolo, it would be recalled, was murdered on January 2, 2023 when his tenure as President General was still running, thereby throwing the community into unexpected mourning.
As a result, Obosi community returned to the ballot on August 19th and elected Barr. Obi in an election keenly contested with three other persons.
He pooled 106 votes to defeat other contestants such as Mr Henry Amalachukwu, who got 11 votes, Stephen Oluchukwu, 3 votes, Joel Mgbeneme 5 votes, and Alex Ejindu 27 votes. All the four hail from Uruowulu village whose turn it is to produce a new PG.
Speaking to newsmen, the new PG, Barr. Chimezie Obi promised to unify his community with a view to entrench peace and development.
According to him, peaceful resolutions of community conflict of interest is key to stabilising and sustainability of any development in a community like theirs, a densely populated community with people of diverse belief, thought and actions.
" I' will seek peace among the feuding parties in Obosi.Where there is no peace, there is no progress. It is my intention to bring everyone together on a table of dialogue. Everyone residents in Obosi will be made to feel belong and have a say in affairs of their host community. I believe that the feel of onenss will motivate the people to be proactive in affairs of the community," he said.
He said he will operate an open door policy where opinion of residents will count in his manner of leadership as all inclusiveness principles is a key tool.
" There are many of them who want to invest in the education of our children, empowerment, and employment of our youths and infrastructural development of Obosi. We will encourage them to come without fear of any hitches,we will assit to create enabling environment, seek out capable hand they can trust and hold accountable," Obi added.
Obi said he will work and demand areas where he can collaborate with the women wing to promote the interest of the women for the betterment of Obosi.
