As the world observes World Sight Day with the theme 'Love Your Eyes at Work', the Anambra State Disability Rights Commission has emphasized the importance of early detection and treatment of eye problems.

The commission, in a statement from its Board Chairman, Barrister Chukwuka Ezewuzie, stressed that it was an absolute fact that blindness can be prevented if eye problems are diagnosed and treated at an early stage.

"We urge everyone to prioritize regular eye check-ups and visits to the eye clinic. Furthermore, we believe that every workplace should be accessible to persons with disabilities, especially the blind and those with low vision.

"It is imperative to create a work environment that is conducive for persons with disabilities, which includes making necessary adjustments and modifications to promote accessibility.

"We encourage employers to support employees with disabilities in accessing assistive technologies and providing reasonable accommodations. This move will enhance their participation in the workforce and contribute to the overall development of the society.

"As we celebrate World Sight Day, let us embrace ways to prevent blindness and promote accessibility to create an inclusive world where everyone has equal rights and opportunities," he added.
