Police burst arms dealer in Anambra, arrest 3 suspects, recover 625 live cartridges

Anambra State police, Saturday, said they have arrested a major arms dealer dealing illegally in prohibited firearms in the State.


The Command's Public Relations Officer, Mr, Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this in a statement, averred that the operatives have equally apprehended three suspects in Onitsha with regards to that.


According to him, a total of twenty-three automatic pump action guns and 625 live cartridges were recovered during the incident following weeks of intensive surveillance by operatives of the Command.


"The Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye has commended the operatives involved in the operation on the instruction of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who provided guidance throughout the operation," he noted.


The command had recorded various success in a jiffy which also was among many reasons they warned people against jungle justice so as to prevent break down of law and order.


"Command will not condone the reckless resort to jungle justice by anyone or group in the State. Someone steals a phone and a mob kills him. The sentence for stealing a phone is 3 years imprisonment. Those who lynch commits murder which carries the death penalty as the Courts have not delegated anyone outside the Judiciary to try, convict and execute suspects! 


"The Commissioner advised all aggrieved persons to take their cases to the Police and if they don't get justice to contact his office directly. Hee assured the people of Anambra State that the Command will always be alive to its responsibility in maintaining law and order. Recourse to self help will not be tolerated. "
