The Anambra Vigilant Group, AVG said the local security outfit is working in synergy with the security forces in Anambra State, aimed at fishing out the arsonists that violently burnt down their patrol vehicles at the Ogbaru Council Area Headquarters in Atami in the earlier hours of last Saturday (15/06/2024), describing the attack as barbaric, idiotic and an act of jobless individuals.
Condemning the razing to dust four operational patrol vehicles of the AVG by the hooligans, the AVG Head of Operations in the State, Chief Chinenye Ihenkor (a.k.a Okpompi), assured that there will be no hiding place for the perpetrators of the heinous crime even as he hailed his men for having resisted the attempt of the bandits to burn down the Council Area Headquarters'
Secretariat until the arrival of other security forces, ably led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations.
"We are going to show the idiots that we are in the grassroots, we are locally based and we know who is who in every locality, therefore there will be no hiding place(s) for all that participated in burning down the vehicles of the AVG in Ogbaru Council Headquarters, this I assure the bandits.
"I want to commend our men at Ogbaru Local Government Area of the State for their resolute in justifying their engagement as AVG. I am glad that they stood the test of time in resisting the hoodlums from accomplishing their ill-desired action of burning down the Council Headquarters and I also thanked the State Commissioner of Police, CP, Nnaghe Obono Itam, the men of the Nigeria Army, the Navy for their prompt response during the period". Okpompi noted.
Okpompi as he is fondly called by his admirers who spoke through the Public Relations Officer of the AVG, Nweke Nweke, recalled that the assailants arrived at the Council Area in large numbers with motorcycles and a vehicle, shooting indiscriminately, aimed at scaring anybody away.
"Their heavy shootings never deterred our men as they mounted strong resistance until other security forces' led by the Deputy Commissioner of the Police arrived. Due to the superior firepower of the security operatives, the gunmen fled the scene, unfortunately, four of our operational vehicles were engulfed in flames and severely damaged but no casualties on our side.
The Anambra Vigilant Group, AVG, however, lauded the Commissioner of Police for having sent one of his Deputies in charge of Operations alongside a joint security force comprising the Army, Navy, and other security agencies to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment even as Okpompi assured that his men are going to assist in the onslaught operations ongoing presently, aimed at apprehending the culprits.
