Uphold professionalism, expert tells Anambra nurses

Nurses and Midwives in Anambra State have been advised to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, compassion and integrity in discharging their duties of taking care of the sick.

The President, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Nurse Michael Nnachi stated this during the Commissioning of the Secretariat of Anambra State Council of Nurses in Awka, the state capital.

He urged them to utilise the new Secretariat as a space for collaboration, learning and networking towards a brighter future for nursing profession and a healthier nation for all.

Commissioning the edifice, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo asked the nurses and healthcare workers to change their attitude to work, saying gone are the days when the state spend billions for job recruitment but the person will prefer to be in his private clinic instead of serving the poor masses.

Represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, Governor Soludo noted that the state is doing free antenatal and delivery services thereby increasing the number of deliveries in healthcare facilities.

Earlier, the Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Edith Onwuka appealed the Governor to address the stagnation of single qualified Nurses and Midwives in CONHESS 7, an act that has no back up rationale while implementing National approved, gazetted and harmonized scheme of service for Nurses and University graduate Nurses.

Correspondent OGEMDI OZOEMENAM reports that the Nurses' House in Anambra State have 10 offices, one conference hall and one multi-purpose hall.
