Anambra youth, Tuesday, celebrated the world youth day with a call on the younger generation to harness the various positive opportunities in the digital space for sustainable development.
The event organised by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State chapter under the theme "youth digital partway for sustainable development," drew stakeholders and youth from all across 21 Council Areas and institutions.
In a presentation, the Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Patrick Agha-Mba, represented by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Engr Martin's Agbili, urged the youth to be loyal, determined and consistent in every legal ventures they invest on.
According to the commissioner, understanding the types of mobile phones they operate, exploring their skills on social media marketing, management and others would project and position them to effectively rule their world.
He further recalled that governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration had initiated various projects and programmes geared towards enabling the youth succeed, gain knowledge, skills, empowerment and other enablement to excel in life and impact positively on society.
Also speaking, the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, represented by the House of Assembly Committee on Youth development, Hon. Onyedikachukwu Ike explained that there are opportunities in all aspects of lives if explored economically.
Udeze, who enumerated some of the opportunities worth exploiting as digital, information and communication technology, agriculture and politics, urged resilience, consistency and prayers to succeed.
On her part, Mrs Obiageri Nwankwo of Girls Brigade, re-emphasised that the youth have the capacity not to only transform society if given opportunities, because of their inept, adaptability, creative, technology savy,.
Early, the State Chairman, NYCN, Surveyor Emeka Obi, explained that the event was aimed at celebrating and empowering youth from across 21 Local Government Areas of Anambra State by exposing them to use of digital tools for personal, economic, academic gains, among others.
Obi, who commended governor Chukwuma Soludo for the various impact his administration has made in the area of youth development, however appealed for the government support in running affairs of the NYCN such as providing them with logistics, among others.
The programme featured award presentations to deserving personalities, including match pass, parades and others.
