We're following extant laws in conducting Anambra LG poll, ANSIEC assures stakeholders

Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), Thursday, assured stakeholders that the commission would comply with relevant laws and electoral guidelines in conducting the September 28, 2024 Council poll.


The Commission's Chairman, Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe, who disclosed this in Awka, the State capital at an interactive session with political parties chairmen and other stakeholders, maintained that the election would be credible, free and fair.


Osakwe also assured the electorate that nobody would be defranchised, adding that they were consulting with law enforcement agents and community leaders for improved and sustainable security during and after the poll.


She charged political parties to shun campaign of calumny, mobilise their supporters and other electorate to actively participate in the election because according to her, it was incumbent on them to elect credible leaders for good governance to thrive at the grassroots.


Some of the stakeholders who spoke at the occasion, including the State CHairman of Action Alliance (AA), Mr Norbert Okorie and the President General, Umunankwo community, Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA), advocated for improved security of lives and properties in the State and inclusion of stakeholders in the whole electoral processes.


Contributing, the Chairman, Anambra State Disability Rights Commission (ANSDRC), Barr. Chukwuka Ezewuzie urged the ANSIEC, political parties and community leaders to give equal opportunities to people living with disabilities  (PWDs) during the election, while the Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwuma Okoye assured the legislative support to the entire process.
