As the world marks the 2024 Anticorruption day, youth in Anambra State have been urged to unite, seek education and contribute resources towards eliminating corruption to a barest minimum.

Anambra State Anticorruption Strategies (ANSACS) Monitoring & Evaluation (M &E) committee, a coalition of State and Non-State Actors stated this in a joint statement with CSOs Media Accountability and Anti-corruption Initiative (CMAAI), a Rule of Law and Anti-corruption (RoLAC) sponsored programme.

The groups in a statement signed by Barr. Lilian Oguchi of ANSACS Secretariat and Ugochi Freeman of CMAAI also identified youth as engine block in the war against corruption, noting that they were mostly affected but with education and unity of purpose as strategies they could easily use in combating them to reclaim society for good.

According to them, corruption erodes the fabric of society, stifling progress and depriving young people of opportunities to thrive, but the youth involvements things would change for better to all members of society.

"Education is key to promoting a culture of integrity. By teaching values of transparency, accountability, and integrity from an early age, we can empower young people to become agents of change.

"Young people can demand accountability and participate in anti-corruption efforts, promote integrity and ethical behaviour within their social circles, develop innovative solutions to address corruption using technology, and advocate for dismantling institutional structures that enable corruption.

"By empowering youth to lead anti-corruption efforts, we can create lasting change. Let's give them a seat at the table, listen to their voices, and involve them in the process. Together, we can combat corruption and build a just world and a sustainable planet," the statement added.

Meanwhile, the ANSACS M & E committee and CMAAI representatives equally participated in a live television programme aired by the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) as parts of advocacy for system strengthening and repositioning of institutions against corruption.
