Traders harvest millions, as Anambra sports competition ends at Awka Township Stadium

The Anambra State Traders sports competition 2024 ended at Awka Township Stadium last Saturday with many businessmen and businesswomen smiling homes with millions of Naira and other prizes.


The competition which kicked off in October 25, 2024, featured football, tennis, table tennis, ncho, and draught, ended with Bridge Head Onitsha taken the trophy and ₦6m having smashed Oraeri market under football category.


Oraeri took home ₦3m as prize for second position, while the Building Materials market Ogbunike went home with ₦1.5m as third prize in football. 


Similarly, individual winners of tennis, table tennis, ncho, and draught received prizes ranging from ₦600,000 to ₦500,000 while those who came second and third places in the games received ₦300,000 and ₦200,000 respectively.


Speaking at the occasion, the Anambra State Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, who represented governor Chukwuma Soludo, praised traders for their commitment towards the successful end of the competition.


According to Ezeajughi, the competition brought Anambra State indigenes and residents together under one umbrella and agenda to unify and provide opportunities for them to do exploits.


 On his part, the Chairman, Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr Patrick-Estate Onyedum, thanked governor Soludo for the support which he described as a demonstration that he is also a trader.


Onyedum, who commended the various stakeholders who contributed to the success of the competition, assuring that Governor's dream of nurturing and bringing out sportsmen and sportsmen from among the traders has working.
