In the spirit of Christmas and New Year festivities, the Rotary Club of Awka SmithTown, Rotary District 9142, has empowered 6 indigent citizens from Anambra State.
The 6 indigent citizens mostly widows, were at family of Rotary, an annual event held by the club at Awka, presented with cash gifts to assist in running their businesses and celebrating with kits and kins amidst the Christmas and New Year festivities.
The event was also aimed at celebrating with families, friends, relatives, business associates, rotary and non rotary members, while giving economic empowerment project to indigent women.
Speaking at the occasion, the President, Rotary Club of Awka SmithTown, Rotarian Ali Alex Arinze urged families, individuals and institutions to rekindle love in the period of festivities by embarking on charity works.
According to him, rotary was founded on love and charity, with commitment to better the society lots using various projects, including sensitisation programmes to eradicate polio, maternal and child health care.
He, however, explained that the Club had committed millions of Naira in societal development within the year with many still to be completed before the end of Rotary Year by June, 2025.
Speaking earlier, the Club Chairman, Family of Rotary 2024, Rotarian Engr. Stephen Idiemeruo, who said they used the occasion to decorate 5 distinguished members and inducted one person, wished members and families well in the period of festivities, while promising a more robust activities in the year ahead.
