Police confirm kidnap of medical doctor in Anambra

Barely 72 hours after Anambra State governor, Professor Charles Soludo launched Operation Udo Ga-Achị (peace shall prevail), gunmen abducted a medical doctor at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) at Nnewi.


According to sources, the victim, a neurosurgeon identified as Dr. Collinus Onuigbo, was kidnapped at front gate of his residence which is very close to the teaching hospital, on Tuesday evening.


They further revealed that the victim’s family members have been anxious and distressed since the incident and currently making frantic efforts to secure his release safely.


Contacted, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, assuring that the command was working assiduously to secure his release with available clues and information under their care.


“Yes, I’m aware of the kidnapping. We have already mobilized for the rescue of the doctor. The Commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has given orders for this, and men of the Command are already on the matter, working with clues to rescue him,” he noted.


Factcheckng recalled that while launching operation udo gá achị, Governor Chukwuma Soludo explained that the initiative was part of his administration’s efforts to combat crime and restore lasting peace and security in the State.
