Activist and Convener, Recover Nigeria Project, Comrade Osita Obi, on Tuesday, expressed worry over the inability of the police to rescue the vice Chairman of Dubai Estate, Mr Benjamin Ezenma alias who went missing since November 2024.
Obi, who was addressing a press conference at Awka, Anambra State capital, said he was also worried that whereabouts of the Anambra State governorship candidate in 2021, Mr Obiora Agbasimelo who disappeared since 2021, and Honourable Azuka, representing Onitsha North 1 that was kidnapped on December 24th, 2024, had not been established.
According to him, this called for a serious questioning and the police, State and federal governments should wade in immediately so as rescue and reunite the persons with their kits and kins.
“Where is BigBen? Where is Agbasimelo? Where is Azuka? I wish they are found, and if they are not, let the security operatives identify the kidnappers. Their kidnappings are no longer just a security problem, but a public issue. I am more particular about the sudden disappearance of BigBen who is also the Vice Chairman of Dubai Estate.
“It is Ben today, it may be any one of us tomorrow. We know that government has the capacity to find this man. What is the federal government doing about this? We all did SIM registration, NIN registration and others, what is the use of such data which we left with the federal government, can’t they use it to find missing people like Ben?
“We are expecting that the authorities would have swung into action, without waiting for people like us to report the incident to them. Let these security agencies use the facilities available to them to track down his kidnappers. If it entails to monitor the call log of Ben through his service providers, we can use it to know the kind of person Ben was, and what he has been into and who he has been having dealings with," he added.
He expressed satisfaction with the way the Directorate of State Services (DSS) was operating in the state but regretted the police’s inaction which according to him, could force him to organise a protest to compel the police to take substantial action regarding the kidnappings.
“I have lost confidence in the police. What you see them doing at roadblocks is extortion. This shows that the leadership of the Nigerian police is doing something wrong. If you go around the streets, you will see how these officers are extorting money from the public instead of focusing on their jobs. It’s time they engage in security surveillance to protect the people of Anambra State,” he stated.
On ongoing operation udo gá achị, Comrade Obi hailed the initiative and urged the populace to support governor Chukwuma Soludo's efforts to rid Anambra State of insecurity.
