The newly appointed Director of Information and Public Relations of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Mr Aloysius Emeka Attah has expressed confidence that his team would live up to the expectations required of them to reposition the citadel of learning.
Attah, a former Chief Correspondent of the Sun Newspaper, stated this on Friday after collecting appointment letters presented to him and six other persons, noting that they would ensure that the Unizik remains Africa’s most globally respected and accepted citadel of higher learning.
The university Council had at its 21st Emergency Meeting held on Friday ratified Attah's appointment alongside others such as Professor Eze Jacintha Ukamaka – University Librarian, Dr Jane Ezeonu – Director of Medical Services, Engr. Ibe Obinna – Director of Works Services, Mr Akuma Paschal. I – Director of Procurement, Engr. Ezeokafor Lawrence – Director of Physical Planning, and Mr Obi Collins – Chief Safety Officer.
According to a statement issued by the new image maker, their appointments were strategic and expected to strengthen the administrative framework of the University, and drive effective service delivery in line with its mandate, mission and vision statements.
"I thank the Pro-Chancellor, members of the internal and external Governing Council, the Vice Chancellor and other members of the interview/ selection team for their painstaking exercise, diligence and rare display of forthrightness, stickling to merit, professionalism and competence, away from sectionalism, ethnic sentiments and other parochial interests," he stated.
He added that it followed a rigorous and merit-based selection process but noted that all took effect from April 17, 2026, and are for a single tenure of five (5) years.
"Presenting the letters of appointment at the Council Chambers of the University ,the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Barr. Monsur Olugbenga Kukoyi, urged the appointees to justify the confidence placed in them through diligence, integrity, and dedicated service. He further encouraged them to uphold the values of the University and serve as worthy ambassadors of the institution.
"The Pro-Chancellor also appreciated the Visitor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa for their commitment towards the revitalization of the education sector and encouraging flourishing research, funding and institutional advancement in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector," he noted.
