The Bishop of the Diocese of Amichi, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Right Rev. Ephraim Okechukwu Ikeako, has emphasized on the indispensable role of objective JOURNALISM in good governance, towards which the society aspires.
Bishop Ikeako elaborately made issues about this the focus of his keynote speech at the 2026 Press Week/35th Anniversary of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), held in Awka, the Anambra State Capital City.
The audacious Diocesan Chief Shepherd, who held the audience, made up of the big and small in the public and private sectors, spellbound, charged Journalists and all mass-media operators to understand the sensitive nature of their service to the society and therefore adhere distractive corrupting influences.
Observing how and why the Press deservedly got the identity 'Fourth Estate of Realm,' Bishop Ikeako, counselled against the Press over-fraternizing with State authorities inorder not to be disabled in its strategic assignment.
He, in his pointblank manner, let the government know its duty in creating enabling environment for a responsible Press, as he also asked the public to give due respect, regard, trust and enablement to the people in the delicate mass-media engagements as encouragement and appreciation for their onerous task.
The man of God beautifully articulated the people's expectations of the NUJ, Anambra State, at thirty-five (35), pointing out its duty to be more maturely fairer and firmer as it serves the society.
