The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wednesday, said it was committed to Organising a free, fair, credible governorship election in Anambra State.
The Director, Voter Education and Publicity, INEC office, Mr. Victor Aluko, who disclosed this in Awka, the State capital, at a sensitisation forum for media executives, online publishers and bloggers, said the commission had improved on its duties and would continue to improve.
Aluko, while stressing that the the umpire had deviced various modern technology, human and materials resoruces to serve Nigerians better, implored the media to help sensitise the electorate on the need to always exercise their franchise.
According to him, with the services professional media practitioners, fake news and hate speech purveyors, would be rendered jobless, even as the masses would repose more confidence on the commission.
He also enjoined the media to use their platforms to educate the people on why they must vote on the forthcoming election in order to prevent voters' aparthy.
"This is an opportunity for us to interact with the media as we prepare for the Governorship election. The programme is part of our media relations. It is an extension of stakeholders relations at the national level. Media is very important to us as we plan also for the 2023 general elections," he added.
Also speaking, Mr Chima Duruaku, the Administrative Secretary, INEC, said the commission had successfully detected and removed from the register records of electorate with double registrations.
Factcheckng reports that the commission also used the opportunity to inform journalists in Anambra State of its new processes for accreditation ahead of the November 6 poll, and also educate the media on how to fact check reports before publishing to avoid promoting fake news and hate speeches.
